Public Sector
In additional to its traditional role of
workplace campaigns, United Way is also contracted to run two
different campaigns in the public sector arena - the
Combined
Federal Campaign (CFC) and the
Colorado Combined Campaign (CCC).
Together, these two campaigns represent about $52,700 of United
Way's annual community campaign. The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) was
created by President Kennedy in 1961 as an annual workplace
charitable giving campaign for all federal civilian, military and
postal employees. Its mission is, "To provide Federal employees and
Military personnel a focused giving opportunity to directly improve
their lives, as well as the lives of people internationally,
nationally and across the Pikes Peak region".
The CFC of the Pikes Peak Region is the annual fundraising drive
on behalf of 1700 Local, National and International Charities for
the Military and Federal Employees within Colorado Springs, Pueblo
and most counties that make up the entire Southeastern quarter of
Colorado. This represents approximately 37,000 military and
civilian employees at Cheyenne Mountain AFB, Fort Carson, Peterson
AFB, Schriever AFB, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Postal Service,
Federal Bureau of Prisons, and a host of other federal agencies
operating within this region. The Local Federal Coordinating Committee (LFCC) provides
oversight to ensure effective management of the Campaign. 2007 has been another great
campaign season. With 8,000 troops deployed to Iraq, our federal
community really put their best foot forward and raised $2,201,730.
When we all work together, we can accomplish amazing results!
The Pike's Peak region is pleased to announce that our Region
won 4 National CFC Awards in the spring of 2007. In a ceremony
hosted by the Office of Personnel Management held at the White
House, SMSgt Gail Henderson, Installation Project Officer, United
Stated Air Force Academy and Mr. Mike Thomas, Employee Campaign
Coordinator, Colorado Springs Postal Service, and Mr. Kirk Brown,
Installation Project Officer, Us Northcom and NORAD were honored as
National CFC heroes for their outstanding campaign leadership and
commitment to volunteerism. Barbara Fitz, Regional CFC Director,
accepted the national innovator award for innovation in campaign
administration. This is the fifth consecutive year the region
has earned the innovation award, the fourth consecutive year
personnel from the Pikes Peak region have been honored as national
heroes. Maj General Paul Sullivan, Chief of Staff Northcom and
NORAD and Mr. Ron Perry, Postal Service Customer Relations, attended
the White House ceremony in support of our honorees. If you would like more information about the Combined Federal

United Way of Pueblo County is one of the 25 federations that
oversee contributions designated to the nearly 25 nonprofit organizations
in the southeastern portion of Colorado. To see participating
charities see page 23 click here.
In the almost 20 years of the campaign, state employees have contributed millions of
dollars to the participating charities. Last year alone,
the CCC raised $1,474,452 for distribution throughout 2007.
This was the second highest dollar amount raised in CCC history,
just shy of 2005's $1,49 million. Thirteen percent of state
employees (7,150) contributed. The average gift per donor was
$206.00. $41,745 was distributed through Pueblo County United Way to the participating charities in our area. In the 19-year history of the CCC, state employees have donated $20,397,682.
Contributions have nearly tripled since the CCC raised $540,595 in
its first year. For more information on the Colorado Combined Campaign please contact Lawrence Kochis,

These campaigns have separate eligibility
processes, volunteers, trainings, reporting processes, campaign
period, and events. Public Sector campaigns are designation-driven,
and United Way of Pueblo County is only one of many participating
federations and charities that can receive donations from public
sector employees.
