United Way Hosts 6th Annual Pacesetter Games

United Way Pacesetter Companies take on the challenge of setting the pace for all others to follow.  They exemplify commitment, dedication, and excellence in support of United Way.  The common denominator between Pacesetter companies is the commitment to excellence, striving for 100% participation, and surpassing the company's previous year’s pledges.  Pacesetters go the extra mile, have the complete endorsement of their CEO and company coordinator, and promote the benefits of giving back to their community through United Way.

In an effort to thank our Pacesetter companies, United Way hosted the 6th Annual Pacesetter Games on July 24, 2008 sponsored by GCC Rio Grande at the Greenway Nature Center.  Nearly 40 pacesetter companies came out and enjoyed food, fun and entertainment and 16 of the companies competed in our backyard games in an effort to take home the traveling trophy.  Each team competed in tug-a-war, a water balloon toss, a shoe relay, and an egg and spoon relay.  After much excitement and fierce competition, the  Boy Scouts became the new grand champions and took home the traveling trophy with GCC Rio Grande and Sam's Club tied for second place and US Bank came in third place. 

We would like to thank  Hot 95.5, Greenway Nature Center, Budweiser--Standard Sales and Grocery Warehouse for their generosity in helping us with the event.
