Meet Michael!
Michael Messervy grew up running wild in Alaska and, since then, has lived and worked in nine different states throughout his life and career. He found Pueblo through his wife, Kara, and quickly fell in love with her—then, not long after, fell in love with Pueblo and the incredible gem that is Southern Colorado.
Michael joined the United Way team in the spring of 2025 as the LEAD Center Manager, bringing a background in small business, change management, project management, and nonprofit work. Coming on board with United Way feels, to him, like finally getting to play for the team he’s been cheering for from the sidelines for years. His role at the LEAD Center is to make life easier for the people and organizations doing the most for our community. This is a privilege and an honor he doesn’t take lightly.
When he’s not working with United Way, you’ll find Michael spending time with his family, making something, fixing something, or tinkering with his sailboat. On a really good day, he’s actually out sailing. He also enjoys reading history and philosophy (preferably not at the same time as sailing).
Some fun facts about Michael:
- The first place my family lived when we moved to Alaska had no running water or electricity.
- I'm currently studying to be able to read the French language.
- I love playing just about any sport (poorly), but I have no patience for watching sports.
- My favorite author is Will Durant.
- I like to sew.
- My favorite place to hang out as a kid was either the woods, or the hardware store.
- My favorite season is Spring.
Michael's responses to some fun questions:
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
If I could choose a superpower, it would definitely be time travel. There are just too many questions about how we got here! Although I suppose I’d need invisibility to go along with it—nobody wants to be that guy who accidentally breaks the space-time continuum.
If you were a pasta shape, what shape would you be and why?
Ravioli—because the most interesting part is on the inside.
If you entered a talent show, what talent would you perform?
We’d never find out—I’d still be out on the lake sailing.
What is the most inspiring thing about your job?
A good society is a team sport, and I get a front-row seat to all the amazing people and organizations that make our community a better place to live.
